Matthew (Matt) is the Managing Director of Barter Theatre in Abingdon, VA. Previously he was the Producing Artistic Director at Greenbrier Valley Theatre where directed Christmas Carol, Little Shop of Horrors, Pride and Prejudice, among others including writing and helming an original show Mountain Home Christmas. Additional theatrical work has been seen in New York, on national tours, and regionally with such companies as Goodspeed Opera House, Peninsula Players Theatre, Bay Street Theatre, Hartford

Theatre Works, Vital Theatre Company, Surflight Theatre, Tent Theatre, North Carolina Theatre, The John Engeman Theatre, among many others. Matt served for five seasons as the Associate Artistic Director of the Missouri Shakespeare Festival where he directed their productions of Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged, and played the titular role in Macbeth and Caliban in The Tempest.
Some of his favorite works as a director include: Avenue Q, Oklahoma!, Altar Boyz, The Fantasticks,  [title of show], Spring Awakening, the musical, J.B., and 9 Parts of Desire. Matt was the department chair and an associate professor of theatre and music theatre at Viterbo University where he also served as the Artistic Director for the New Works Festival.As an educator he has taught workshops across the country including NATS, SETC, META, CAP and in numerous university and college programs. Matt has been a cohort member of the ATHE Leadership Institute, served as the Musical Theatre Intensive and SDC Coordinator for the Kennedy Center ACTF Region III, and has done career coaching for the NYC based company The Biz of Show. Matt holds an MFA in directing from Illinois State University and is a proud member of AEA and SDC.
